GAME SUMMARY 9/12 VS EAST VALE MUSTANGS

The first game of the season is always the most difficult one!  The boys were battling their emotions prior to the game as many were nervous, anxious and some might of been a bit scared as well!  The 2009 Chino Hills Bulldogs Pee Wee 1 team took to the field and started it's journey towards greatness on Saturday.  After a very emotional tribute to the victims of 9/11 and the national anthem it was time to play some football!

The East Vale Mustangs who always have solid teams came to Chino Hills with visions of going home with a "Win" but the only two words they would leave with would be "Defense" and "Bryson Charbonier".  The Bulldog defense after allowing an early big run for a TD would put the clamps down on the Mustangs and not surrender another point!  After falling behind early the Bulldogs Offense led by first year QB Al Basurto put together a nice drive.  The drive led by some magnificent blocking up front by Nolan Bremser, Trent Goens and Isaiah McCullough would create nice running lanes for Bryson Charbonier to run behind.  Not to be outdone, Preston Gurrola ran just effectively behind nice wholes created by JJ Alfaro, Andrew Posner, Elijah Campbell and Chazz Eldridge.  The drive would culmiate in a short run by Bryson Charbonier and a good PAT by Nolan Bremser that would provide the Bulldogs with an early 8-6 lead.  The defense would stiffle the Mustangs Offense on the next few offensive series but with time running out, the Bulldogs offense got another chance to score after a Al Basurto interception.  The Bulldogs were facing a 3rd and long after a penalty but Bryson Charbonier broke a big run that resulted in a first down.  Shortly there after, the Bulldogs were once again knocking on the door.  The TD came when Preston Gurrola went in for the score from 3 yards out (PAT failed).  The Bulldogs would go into the half time with a 14-6 lead.  The 3rd quarter seen both teams squander opportunities but the Bulldogs defense stepped it up big time!  After a costly interception and a return inside the 10, the Bulldogs defense came up big!  The Bulldogs managed to come up with some key tackles for loss but none bigger than the one from Isaiah McCullough.  The loss would put the Mustangs way out of the RED ZONE and ended the drive without any points.  Players such as Joshua Walker, Matthew Wilson, Mark Williams and Trent Goens.  The Bulldogs and Mustangs plagued by panalties and turn overs would go late into the third quarter when the play of the game would be delivered and would become the play of the game!  As the Mustangs punted the ball down field with the wind at their backs, Bryson Charbonier worked the ball from the middle of the field and then to the right weaving his way through would be tacklers and then getting some key blocks as he returned the ball for a 53 yard TD that would give the Bulldogs a 20-6 lead.  The Mustangs would never threat to score there after as the defense harrassed, chased and stiffled the Mustangs.  The Bulldogs would watch the last few seconds run down as the Bulldogs defeated a tough Mustang Team.  The Bulldogs now get set for a span of three road games and plan on become road warriors.  Congratulatins Bulldogs on the first win of the season!  See you all on TUE for practice!

9/19 BULLDOGS 6 TROJANS 8

The Bullodogs made the trip up to the high desert with aspirations of going 2-0 early in the 2009 season.  We prepared all week long for what we knew would be a big challenge for us.  The Trojan's came into the game having handed the Bloomington Bruins a major defest at 40-0 and we knew that we would have to play great on both sides of the ball in order to win.
Early on, the running game was there as Bryson Charbonier provided some early runs to the outside.  We opened up the passing game and mis-fired on a few shots down field to Isaiah McCullough.  The first half would turn out to be a game of field position and opportunity as both teams squandered chances early on.  The Bulldog defense which played solid all day was led by John Quijas and Joshua Walker who both seemed to be all over the field making key tackles.  The Bulldogs also were successful in creating turn overs as Al Basurto and Isaiah McCullough both intercepted passes stopping Hesperia drives.  Early in the 2nd quarter, Hesperia would finally put together a drive that would result in the first points of the game and convert the extra point kick.  With time running out before the half, the Trojans would lead early.  The Bulldogs put together a drive behind some key runs by and an end around by Matthew Wilson that would get the Bulldogs close to midfield.  The key play came on 4th down when we opted to call a fake punt that was executed by Trent Goens as he connected with Bryson Charbonier for a huge gain and a key first down.  Al Basurto would lead the Bulldogs down the field and into the red zone and a few plays later Bryson Charbonier would go in for six points.  The extra point attempt by Nolan Bremser would miss to the left and we would go into the half time down 8 to 6.  The 3rd quarter was a battle of defenses as both offenses found nothing to build on.  That would quickly change in the 4th quarter.  With under 8 minutes to play, Trent Goens would kick what looked to be a 50 yard punt that would see us pin the Trojans inside the 10 yard line.  The defense rose to the ocassion and forced a quick 4 and out.  We would get the ball back at the 15 yard line.  On the ensuing play, Preston Gurrola went off tackle and the referees would make a late call stating that he fumbled (I never seen it!)  The momentum would be taken away but not for long!  The Defense once again held and we got them to punt it back.  After a return to the 17 yard line, we took 4 shots and failed to convert.  The game would finish at 8-6 Hesperia.

I know it's a tough loss!  Our boys although not having played a perfect game were in position to win it!  I beleive that Hesperia made 1 more play than we did this time.  Next time and I think there will be a next time....The outcome will be different!

The Bulldogs stay on the road next week as we make our way over to SUMMIT

    9/26 BULLDOGS VS SUMMIT TITANS

Against some real tough odd's the Bulldogs went to Summit and were victorious.  Before we even left Chino Hills, we were receiving call's as to some of the kids health.  We were informed of 1 startes absencse and were told of at least 2-3 other boys that had flu like symptoms.  Uppon arriving in Summit, we found out that our starting RB was ill and that his availability would be limited to a few carries or maybe even not at all!  In the outset of the game, we got the ball and began to drive the ball down field.  The drive would end on a fumble.  Summit wasted no time as they got the big play and took an early 6-0 lead.  The second Bulldog drive ended like the first one with a fumble on their side of the field.  We held off the Summit barrage early and got the ball back!  We drove down the field and got on the board behind some key run's by Preston Gurrola who would play a key role in the win.  Summit struck again and went up 12-6 but not to be outdone, Al Basurto guided his team back down the field and we we tied the game when Bryson Charbonier went in for his first TD of the game.  Summit would be held in check yet again on the offense.  We would get the ball with just under 6 minutes before the half.  The Bulldogs put together a nice drive behind the exceptional blocking of the line.  Both Isaiah McCullouugh and Preston Gurrola punded and gauged out some nice runs that ultimately led to Preston Gurrola's second TD of the game.  With under 2 minutes left before the half, the Titans would get great field position after a short kick and once again score an a broken play and tie the game.  Both teams showing wear and tear from the hitting and the heat and the score at the half was 19-19.

During the half, we stressed the importance of finishing strong and not making mistakes.  We went back on the field and put up two more early scores as Bryson Charbonier hit paydirt 2 more times with some long runs from scrimmage.  With the Bulldogs nursing a 13 point lead, we needed some to hold.  The Titans then put on a rally and got on the board again after a kick return for a TD.  The Bulldogs answered right back as Al Basurto ran down the sideline for 40 yards for a TD and Trent Goens converted the PAT.  With the score now 40-25 the Titams would need to get on the board quickly.  They did just that and pulled within 8 with under 8 minutes to play.  The Bulldogs then went back to it's ground game and used the clock as it's ally.  The drive ended with another TD and the Bulldogs took at 16 point lead with under 3 minutes to play.  The Titans would not find the end zone no more and the Bulldogs held on for it's 2nd win of the season.

Big shout outs go to:  Bryson Charbonier for coming up huge!  He was limited to only 7 plays on offense but scored 3 times.  Preston Gurrola for a strong game running the ball and for picking up the slack!  Isaiah McCullough for a nice job on his dual role as a TE and RB.  Mark Williams for an exceptional job at RG and RT and not allowing any sacks or plays for loss!  Good job Mark!  Joshua Walker for a nice day running the ball at the FB spot!  Al Basurto for being a leader and keeping the team focussed and putting up 48 points!  Elijah Campbell for his sack!  Oh yes, I was watching!  Orozco, nice tackles out there!  Good for you!  Vincent Leal for his double duty on O and D!  Benson nice work on the O and D lines...You stepped up!  Valdes, I can see that you are getting more aggressive!  Chavez, you are coming along!  I just need to see more aggressive play and before you know it you will arrive!  Keep working hard!  Morriseau, Campbell, Shaughnessy and Kim all did a fine job and we look to build on your peformances!

10/10 BULLDOGS LOCK DOWN THE ONTARIO OUTLAWS 28-0

The Bulldogs returned home after a 3 week road trip that seen the Bulldogs go 1-2.  With a record of 2-2 it was important that the Bulldogs get this divisional game.  The Bulldogs prepared all week long on both sides of the ball.  We entered the game minus our starting QB (Al Basurto) but Preston Gurrola was more than up to the task as he made his first start of the season.

The Bulldogs quickly made an impression on the Outlaws as the drove down the field and got on the board when Bryson Charbonier scored from 40 yards out.  The extra point would fail but that TD would prove to be the only one needed on this day.  The Defense who was led by Johnny "CHAOS" Quijas and Matthe "Mad Dog" Wilson shout down the Ontario running game all day long.  Try and try they did to establish the running game but it was too much Bulldog to handle.  Players such as Caleb Bosia, Mark Williams, Adrian Valdes, Vince Leal and Kimon Benson stuffed the Outlaw's from establishing any type of running game.  Late in the 1st quarter the Bulldogs would once again find the endzone as Isaiah McCullough found the end zone on a 6 yard run.  The Bulldogs would go on to put up two more scores both of whom were scored by Joshua Walker.  Joshua Walker had one of those career games that will not be forgotten any time soon!

Special shout out to all of the boys who got to see added playing time during the course of this game...That means you Rebel Offensive players and you Mad Dog's!

Lets savor the victory but get ready to start next week to prepare for the Bruins of Bloomington!

10/17 BULLDOGS VS BRUINS @ BLOOMINGTON

The Bulldogs who traveled to Bloomington for their final divisional game knew that a win here would see them have beaten all divisional opponents.  A win here would also put us in the drivers seat going inot the final two games of the season.  "A win here and we are in great shape" stated Coach Alvaro".  The coaches let the boys know at the begining of the game the importance and they did not let us down.  The offense took the field and immediately made a statement as Preston Gurrola hit Al Basurto in the corner of the end zone for a 35 yard TD pass.  WIth an early lead the Bulldog D who in the prior week shout out the Outlaws came out with the same plan in mind.  They stifled the Bruins and holding them to a 4 and out.  The Bulldog O then went right back to work and Preston Gurrola found Trent Goens for another TD pass giving the Bulldogs an early 14-0 lead.  This would prove all the points they would need for the day.
The defense was back to it's normal stingy self as it harrased, chased down and blew up all attempts for positive yardage.  The Bulldog D lead by linebacker Johnny Quijas hit just about everything coming his way.  Matthew Wislon, David Kim, Kimon Benson, Alexander Valenzuela, Grant Nudo and Adrian Valdes all played solid as they did not allow a runner to get more than 4 yards on any carry all day long.  With the run non existant, all attempts to pass were obvious and failed.  The offense also seen many other boys step up hin a big way.  Huntter Haveles, Alexander Valenzuela, Kimon Benson, Mark Williams, Quin Shaghnessy, Joshua Sanchez and Orozco all seen added playing time and contributed in a big way.  Both Valenzuela and Haveles recorded extra point conversions and found the endzone for the first time this season.

A big shout out goes to Isaiah McCullough for his big game at the RB spot.  he had a career game running for over 100 yards and finding the endzone on a 35 yard TD run.  Al Basurto who had the best game of the season ran and caught a TD making him the MVP of the game.  Shout outs also to Preston Gurrola, Andy Posner, Elijah Campbell for strong performances as well.

TD's recorded by AL Basurto (2), Isaiah McCullough (1), Trent Goens (1) and Bryson Charbonier

The win sets up a key home game after the BYE week vs San Jacinto.  The game is going to be the only night game of the season.  The game is at CHHS and will be played on Halloween Night to make it all that more special!  Come out and watch as we put the fear into San Jacinto!

BULLDOGS 1 SAN JACINTO EAGLES 0.

The Bulldogs won the game via Forefit vs San Jacinto.  The game was played out as the Bulldogs scored 40 points on their way to being 5-2 with one game remaining in the regular season.  The next game is the season finaly at home vs the Desert Valley Hawks.  This looks to be a very good game!

BULLDOGS 19 AND DESERT VALLEY HAWKS 12

What a great game!!!  The fans came it to watch our boys in the season finale with so much on the line.  A victory over the Hawks would mean 2 things.  It would guarantee the #3 seed in the playoffs and most importantly the I.E. West Division Title!  The Bulldogs cmae out swinging and got up early on the Hawks as Bryson Charbonier had another strong rushing game.  His early scores provided the Bulldogs with a 12-0 lead at the half.  The Bulldogs defense was stout!  They shut down the HAWKS offensive weapons and did not allow any big plays in the first half.  The boys faltered with the chance to go up on the HAWKS 18-0 just before the half when a pass intended for Quinn Shanughnessy fell short and was picked off.  OTher than this, the first half was all BULLDOGS!  In the 3rd quarter, the Hawks got on the board once and got close.  With the game now in the 4th quarter, the HAWKS got back in the end zone but had it's extra point stopped by a stingy BULLDOG defense.  With the game on the line and just under 6 minutes remaing, the Bulldogs put the ball in the hands of Isaiah McCullogh and Bryson Charbonier.  Both of the backs made big plays as they drover the ball inside the 35 yard line of the HAWKS.  When Isiah McCullough went out hurt, in stepped Joshua Walker.  Joshua Walker then put the final nail in the coffin as he went off tackle for a 30 yard TD run.  The Bulldogs then sealed the vicotry when Johnny QUijas intercepted the Hakws pass ending any threat of a come back.

The victory ends the regular season at 6-2 and provides us with the #3 seed in the playoffs and a well deserved BYE.
